Consider loading an apple using the method below and pack it into an air-tight container for a quick and healthy microwaved lunch at the office.
With football season just around the corner, now is the time to get creative with quick and easy menu items for that next weekend get together. Often times we overlook the obvious when preparing desserts. Try using fruit as the main ingredient; apples are the ultimate "fast food" with this simple microwave method. Microwave baked apples are simple to prepare and they provide a healthy after school snack alternative. You will find that your kids will prefer these to chips or candy, and your husband's BBQ buddies will also want some on game day. Why not serve these with a large of mug steaming, hot Irish coffee?
Select large Golden Delicious apples or slightly sour Granny Smith apples for this dessert; depending on your preference.
Core the apples and stand them with the hole facing up on a dinner plate.
Inside each hole, place 1/4 tsp of butter, 1 dried apricot half, a pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg and 1/2 tsp of brown sugar and about 6 raisins.
After adding the raisins, push them down into the holes gently with the back of a teaspoon and then add 1 tbs of milk into each of the holes.
Place them into your microwave on high for around 10 minutes until the sides of the apples are soft when pricked with a fork. It will depend on the power of your microwave; you may wish to bake a test apple first.
BBQ Method:
Grilled apples are a great addition to the weekend BBQ menu. Piping hot baked apples right off the grill will put a smile on everyone's face. Try adding a few cashew nuts and an optional dash of liqueur for adults, or some crunchy candy sprinkles on top for the kids.
Christmas Apples
Garnish using red and green cake decorating candy to serve after Christmas dinner. By adding a 1/4 teaspoon of almond essence to the butter, you will have a traditional Christmas cake flavor incorporated into your dessert.
Halloween Apples
Add some spooky shaped candy pieces for a great Halloween theme. Use a sharp knife to carve a small scary face on the side each apple before cooking. Serve with a dollop of fruity yogurt or ice-cream.
Girls Night In
Serve these delicious apples with a glass of sparkling white wine or club soda when you are next hosting a girl's night in. Add some peppermint essence to the butter mixture, and serve with a minty after dinner chocolate. This treat is especially eye-catching when garnished with pink candy sprinkles and some edible flower petals.
Any way you serve these scrumptious baked or grilled apples, everyone will adore them.
